United Nations Resident Coordinator presents her credentials to President Barrow

As resident coordinator, she is the designated representative of the UN Secretary General and head of the UN Country Team.  The Resident Coordinator provides strategic and joint policy direction to the UNCT, which consists of 18 UN agencies of which 9 are resident agencies, supporting The Gambia’s development efforts.

The Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) brings the UNCT together to ensure greater efficiency and effectiveness of the UN’s presence in The Gambia. The RCO plays a critical role in promoting UN Reforms and the principle of “Delivering as One”. It is customary for the RC, who has the rank equivalent to an ambassador to present their credentials to the head of state of the country they are serving in. In discussions following the presentation of her credentials, Ms. Wakana assured His Excellency President Adama Barrow of the UN’s continued support to The Gambia’s efforts towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
