The Gambia, Voluntary National Review, June 2020
The Gambia, like many other countries demonstrated its commitment to the implementation of Agenda 2030 by mainstreaming the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the National Development Plan (NDP) 2018 – 2021; providing an opportunity to align and address its development priorities with SDG targets and indicators. The Government continues to engage the private sector, civil society, and development partners in the implementation of the Agenda 2030. While there is a need to increase awareness around the SDGs, the participation of stakeholders during the Voluntary National Review (VNR) has increased ownership of the Agenda 2030. The Government has aligned the institutional arrangements for the SDGs and the NDP to enhance effective and efficient coordination among stakeholders. These arrangements include Ministerial Steering Committee, and technical Sector Working Groups. The VNR Coordinating Committee will be maintained and transformed into a technical SDG coordination mechanism.
