Women play a key role in safeguarding food security
About 75% of the agricultural labour force is provided by women. Yet still, they face challenges when it comes to accessing farm inputs.
In complementing The Gambia Government’s efforts, WFP provided seeds and farming inputs to the Ministry of Agriculture to facilitate horticultural production for women small holder farmers in NBR, CRR and URR.
Yasuhiro Tsumura, WFP Country Director elaborated on how WFP has worked with the Ministry to ensure the provision of food assistance to complement government’s efforts. He said,
“WFP will continue to work with partners in the medium and long term to support the government improve production efficiencies, promote value addition and facilitate market access of farm produce.”
